Porcelain Garden Stairway
Traditional Townhome Entryway & Stairway Design
A stairway that feels less like circulation and more like narrative.
This elegant entry foyer and adjoining stairwell became the defining feature of our largest official Canadian project in Toronto, a modern townhome rooted in tradition, layered with antique accents, ginger jars, and a quiet sense of timeless charm.
A dramatic floral Scalamandré wallpaper rises through the stairwell like a modern climbing vine, guiding the eye upward toward a serene blue-toned primary suite. The pattern blooms across each level, visually connecting the home from floor to floor while anchoring it in a sense of “northern elegance.”
There is something particularly satisfying about giving a stairway this much attention. It is a space we move through constantly, yet here it becomes an experience in itself. The floral pattern creates movement as it climbs, while the antique pieces and collected accents give the foyer a feeling of having evolved over time rather than being assembled all at once.
The result is a stairway that feels less like circulation and more like narrative, framing heirlooms collected over a lifetime and setting the tone for a home where pattern and polish coexist in equal measure.
What might otherwise be a transitional space becomes one of the home’s most memorable moments. The entry and stairway establish a sense of arrival, then carry that character upward, creating a visual thread between the rooms and giving the home a story that unfolds from floor to floor.
