Chinoiserie Chalet
Chinoiserie Mudroom Design
Upstairs may hold the Scalamandré spotlight, but the downstairs foyer was designed to make its own quiet statement.
In a country where garage entries are often overlooked, this Canadian mudroom called for something more intentional: warmth, function, and a proper sense of arrival.
Set in a modern townhome in Toronto, the space is wrapped in a ginger jar-inspired Scalamandré wallpaper that brings a year-round sense of pattern, optimism, and light. Sleek built-in Italian cabinetry keeps everyday clutter contained, while brass hardware and vintage accents introduce warmth and patina.
A thoughtfully placed mirror offers a last check before heading out, earmuffs, coats, and all, while a vintage chest and a small corner chair soften the edges and make the space feel lived-in rather than utilitarian.
The result is a mudroom that feels less like a pass-through and more like a curated welcome: functional, layered, and quietly charming. It is a reminder that even the spaces we hurry through deserve the same consideration as the rooms where we linger.
